The IBE is delighted to confirm the appointment of Simon Thompson as the new President of the IBE and Chair of our International Advisory Council. Simon has a long and distinguished business career. He is a Senior Adviser to Rothschild and Co. and former Chair of 3i Group, Rio Tinto and Tullow Oil. Simon knows the IBE well having previously served as our Vice-President and as Chair of the Advisory Group for our recently published Board Guidance.
Joining Simon is Jasmine Whitbread, the Chair of Travis Perkins, who assumes the role of Vice-President. Jasmine's commendable contributions include her collaboration with Simon on our Board Guidance Advisory Group.
We are pleased to announce additional appointments that further enrich our council's expertise:
- Lord Evans of Weardale: Formerly the chair of the Committee on Standards in Public Life and Director General of MI5 (2007–2013), Lord Evans brings a wealth of experience. He was our 2020 Annual Lecturer and currently holds the position of Independent Non-executive Chair, Public Interest Committee, KPMG UK.
- Andrew Hill: Renowned Senior Business Writer at the Financial Times and Consulting Editor at FT Live. Andrew’s experience spans various roles including, management editor, City editor, financial editor, and comment and analysis editor. Additionally, he has chaired the board of Blueprint for Better Business.
- Loren I. Shuster: Global Chief People Officer and Head of Public Affairs for LEGO who has just stepped down from the IBE board.
The IBE also welcomed a number of other accomplished individuals to our International Advisory Council in July 2023. Amanda Mackenzie LVO OBE is a board member of British Land and Lloyds Banking Group and an advisory board member of the Impact Investment Institute and she also Chairs The Queens’s Reading Room charity; Marsha Ramroop FRSA FIEDP is a global award-winning Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategist, and Founder Director of Unheard Voice Consultancy Ltd.; and Paul Wilden has broad experience in financial markets spanning three decades and is both a Fellow of the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) and a Member of the Board of Companions and Chartered Companion of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

The International Advisory Council serves as a crucial body, representing the diverse audience that the IBE aims to engage. It plays a pivotal role in offering guidance and advice on our work programmes and strategic initiatives.
We express our sincere gratitude to the departing members - Ian Barlow, Peter Harper, Rachel Lomax, Sir Kevin Tebbit, and Sir Robert Worcester - for their invaluable contributions to the IBE.
